Adobe ~ Walls & Gates |

Home Native vs. Spanish Style Construction What Color is that Clay? Walls & Gates Paint It Blue! Interiors |
Homes are generally walled
here, or surrounded with a fence of cactus poles or branches of varying heights
(called a coyote fence, but as my last dog was half coyote, you can guage
just how well the fences work!). People get creative with their walls, making
fancy stepped designs, arched gateways, and other embellishments. Gates or
doorways are usually wood, often painted blue. You will also often see windows in adobe walls, with branches set into the adobe as bars, or with shutters on them. Small display niches are common as well. House numbers are usually painted tiles set into the adobe. Decorative accents like sun-face plaques and chile ristras add another welcoming touch. |
